emotionally, chris was almost like a teenager. this is just my opinion obviously but i think these new feelings were almost like a drug for him- he couldn't get enough no matter the cost. he was probably rethinking all of his life choices. he realized he couldn't go back to the way things were before- he had already experienced an "alternative" life and he was going to find a way to make that happen. but then reality set in- he couldn't just get a divorce because they were already struggling financially then adding the cost of a divorce on top of that; lawyers fees, splitting their assets, alimony, having to get a new place to live, and the cost of raising three kids combined with the debt they already had probably made him feel like his dream of being with NK was slipping away. he couldn't let that happen. he's desperate to get out of his marriage at all costs. he starts fantasizing about the unthinkable.. first, shannan dying. then he starts thinking about murdering her himself. at first it's just a fleeting thought- a fantasy.
